David Chartrand
David Chartrand received First Place in the 2010 Heart of America Awards from the Kansas City Press Club in the category for non-news columns in large papers. Chartrand is a freelance columnist who writes for The Kansas City Star. Judges commented that he had a “Quirky sense of humor with great comedic lineup and perceptive commentary.”
Chartrand also has a strong interest in mental illness, mental health care reform, and what U.S. communities and their school systems are doing to protect mentally ill and suicidal students. He was a panelist discussing this issue at the NSNC New Orleans Conference in 2008.
