National Society of Newspaper Columnists Announces
Launch of 2025 Annual Columnist Contest
The National Society of Newspaper Columnists (NSNC) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the launch of the 2025 Annual Columnist Contest. The contest will officially kick off on January 15 and run through April 15, 2025.
“We are accepting entries from columnists, bloggers, and serial essayists for work published in 2024. Everyone is welcome to submit. You don’t have to be an NSNC member to enter. However, you can save on entry fees by becoming an NSNC member,” said Meredith Cummings, president of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.
Entry fees are $30 for NSNC members and $60 for non-members; join NSNC (membership $75 – join here) and entry fee is $30. Student entry fee: $15 (must have been a student during 2024).
“As always, this year’s contest will challenge entrants to seek out their best work and NSNC can’t wait to share that award-winning work with its members when the awards are presented later this year at a virtual awards ceremony. Submitting entries will be quick and simple, in part thanks to our new contest director Joanne Brokaw,” Cummings said.
This year’s contest categories include General Interest, Print; General Interest, Online/Multimedia/Digital Content; Humor, Print; Humor, Online/Multimedia/Digital Content; Sports, Print AND/OR Online/Multimedia/Digital Content; Lifestyles, Print AND/OR Online/Multimedia/Digital Content; Crisis, Print AND/OR Online/Multimedia/Digital Content; and Social Justice, Print AND/OR Online/Multimedia/Digital Content. Columnists can enter work in multiple categories.
“I’m honored to join the National Society of Newspaper Columnists as the contest director. I’m looking forward to working with this talented and supportive group of professionals to further the NSNC’s mission to ‘promote education, professionalism, and camaraderie among columnists and other writers,’ and to celebrate the writers whose excellent work contributes to open dialogue and free speech. I encourage writers of all experience levels to explore NSNC membership, and to submit their work for this year’s contest,” Brokaw said.
NSNC would also like to extend a special thank you to Adam Earnheardt, who has served as the contest director for the past two years. Earnheardt currently serves as the vice president of the organization.
Awards will include First, Second, and Third Place, and Honorable Mention. Certificates will be issued to winning columnists. To enter the contest, click here.
